Libertytown Volunteer Fire Department Member Madelyn Prabe was recently honored by the Frederick County Division of Fire & Rescue Services for her exceptional efforts in the High School Internship Program by being awarded the John Carnegis Academic Achievement Award. This award is presented to the Intern who is undoubtably dedicated to learning the craft, outstanding performance, commitment to excellence and a “No Surrender, No Defeat” attitude. The plaque will be hung on a wall at the Training Academy for all to see and the individual will receive a ribbon for their class ”A” uniform and a certificate.
The internship program, held at the Frederick County Public Safety Training Facility, is 143 days of intense classroom training which translate to 429 hours total in the program the first year. In this year’s program Intern Praybe was the only intern to pass all of the following classes: PPE/SCBA, CPR/AED, HazMat/WMD, Firefighter I, Firefighter Safety and Survival, Rope Rescue awareness, Building Construction for the Fire Service, Traffic incident Management, and Emergency Medical Responder which she scored the highest grade of her class.
The award is in honor of Chief John Carnegis, a dedicated volunteer and instructor. Chief Carnigis passed away on August 10, 2024. He gave everything he had to the fire and rescue service and never passed up a chance to take a moment to share his wisdom and knowledge with anyone. This years internship program was dedicated in his memory.
