| On June 29, 2019 at approximately 12:54 hrs units from Libertytown, Union Bridge, and Woodsboro responded to vehicular crash with fatality due to a head-on collision between a tractor-trailer and car on Liberty Road near Unionville Road. Firefighter Mike Powers was driving Engine 172 as RE171 was out of service. Firefighter Powers got out of the cab of the engine and collapsed. Realizing he was in cardiac arrest, the paramedic on Medic 17 (now ALS 17) and other crew members began immediate resuscitative and advanced life support measures. Firefighter Powers was transported to Frederick Memorial Hospital (now Frederick Health Hospital) where continued efforts were unsuccessful. The officers and members of the Libertytown Volunteer Fire Department fondly remember Mike this day and will never forget his passion and dedication to the Libertytown Volunteer Fire Department, his community and his service to his country. Rest in Peace Mike. |
