Libertytown Members Recognized for Dedicated Service

Mike Naill and Larrie Welsh, members of the Libertytown Volunteer Fire Department, were recognized by at the Frederick County Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association Awards Ceremony held at the Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company on June 7 for their dedication and commitment of service. Chief Chip Stevens, Mark Vassallo and posthumously Mike Powers also received awards for service in 2019 and were so noted during the ceremony.

Mike Naill was inducted into the Frederick County Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association Hall of Fame. Mike serves as vice president of the fire department and served 8 years as president of the Libertytown Volunteer Fire Department. He was the driving force in the planning and overseeing of the construction of the new 10,000 square foot addition of the firehouse. He not only serves in an administrative capacity, but is also still very active responding to incident.

Larrie Welsh was honored with the Bruce Reeder Golden 50 Award. Larrie is a past president and a charter member of the Libertytown Volunteer Fire Department and past president the Frederick County Volunteer Fire & Rescue Association. Not only did his tenure of fire department president set the company of a solid financial footing, during his presidency of the county association he was instrumental in advocating for the implementation of the LOSAP program.

Several members were also honored that received awards in 2019 but the awards ceremony was cancelled due to COVID.

Chief Chip Stevens was awarded the Michael Wilcom Officer of the Year

Mark Vassallo was inducted into the Frederick County Volunteer Fire & Rescue Hall of Fame

Mike Powers was posthumously awarded the "Heart of the Volunteer" award.

These awards were presented to the recipients at a company meeting last year.

The Libertytown Volunteer Fire Department is very proud of these dedicated individuals and honored to have them serve.
